Honours Research Opportunites

Hi!

Students wishing to do Honours with the Marine Ecology Group at Macquarie University can enroll in either Marine Science Honours or Biology Honours. Both require an overall grade point average (GPA) of greater than 2.5 and a GPA greater than 2.5 in the final year of study. Grades in your undergraduate coursework, however, are not incorporated into your Honours grade. Intake for both Honours program occur twice a year (at the beginning of each calender semester). Students from institutions other than Macquarie University are encouraged to apply.

Bachelor of Marine Science Honours (ELS 490) consists of a 12-month research project on a specific topic. Students must write a literature review and participate in some form of short-term coursework. Both the topic of the review and the nature of the coursework will depend on the research project. The idea is to both broaden your education and to assist in areas that you may feel replete in.

Bachelor of Science Honours students can choose to do either two separate research projects (one per semester) or a single research project over both semesters. In addition, students must participate in some short-term coursework. For more information, please visit: http://www.bio.mq.edu.au/pgrad/honours.html.

Potential Honours projects for both degrees can be found at: http://www.bio.mq.edu.au/pgrad/HonsProjects.pdf. These are merely suggestions and students are encouraged to participate in the topic and design of their research.
