Volunteer Research Opportunites |
Often, either during or after your undergraduate degree, you may wonder if you are suited to research as a career. Volunteering in a laboratory is a popular way to get practical experience in research in a specific field of interest. The Marine Ecology Group offers the opportunity to work in close association with graduate students and staff, and to see first hand what marine ecology entails. This would involve both laboratory and field work in a range of projects and with a variety of organisms (please read our research section).
Volunteer work can be done on either a full-time or part-time basis and applications are accepted throughout the year. We encourage overseas students to apply for our volunteer program.
There are no official volunteer application forms. If you are interested in volunteering for the Marine Ecology Group, please contact Dr Jane Williamson with the following details:
(1) Curriculum vitae or “resume”.
(2) Two letters of reference, preferably from academics or researchers involved in biology.
(3) A letter listing classes taken and grades obtained. An official transcript is not necessary, but a copy is appreciated.
If accepted, the particular terms of your volunteering will be discussed and a written contract will be drawn up for you to sign. At the completion of your contract, you will be entitled to a written reference on the skills you have gained and what you have achieved during your stay.
We look forward to hearing from you!
Jane
