Science Workshop
Welcome to the resources page for the Science Workshop.
The workshop will run over two 1-hour sessions in 2012, 1pm Tuesday March 6 and 1pm Tuesday March 13. Both will be presented by Dr Kate Barry and held in the Lotus Theatre W6D.
The face-to-face workshop is designed for biology planet unit students with no science background, however, the video clips (click on the section names below) may also be useful for any first year biology student or second year student that needs to brush up on the basics.
This workshop will be presented in 4 discrete sections:
1. Search strategies (March 6)
This section will guide you through the library search engine, including 'catalogue', 'databases', 'e-reserve' and 'journal search'.
2. Basic writing skills (March 6)
This section will provide you with information about the major types of science writing assessments i.e. essays, literature reviews and scienctific papers.
3. Referencing (March 13)
This section will focus on the Harvard referencing system, which is the system used by most fields of science (including biology).
4. Plagiarism (March 13)
This section will explain what plagiarism is, why it is unacceptable, and how to avoid it.
