Prerequisites:

None. This course is presented in such a way that students with no previous experience in Biology will not be at a disadvantage, while students with some Biology background will still find the Unit interesting.

When and how offered:

First Semester.
BIOL108 is offered in internal or external mode.

Textbook:

Mader, Sylvia M. Inquiry into Life McGraw-Hill Publishers.
Any of the recent editions of this text are suitable (2000-2004). There is no textbook that is entirely appropriate for this unit, but Inquiry into Life has a number of useful features that are relevant to the general philosophy behind BIOL108.

Assessment:

Components of the assessment are as follows:
Test 1 10% (week 5)
Test 2 10% (week 12)
Written assignment 1 15% (week 6)
Written assignment 2 15% (week 11)
Final examination 50% (week 14)
