I'm a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Biological Sciences
at Macquarie University, and from 2011-15 an ARC Future Fellow.
From 2001-8 I held a series of postdoc positions; from 2005-9 I was a Deputy Convenor of the ARC-NZ
Vegetation Function Network.
My research (funded both by the Australian Research Council and Macquarie University) focuses on:
- Understanding plant ecological strategies via functional traits
- Quantifying trait relationships from local to global scales (and the effects of climate and soils)
- Understanding the anatomical, physiological & evolutionary underpinnings of trait variation
- Incorporating "trait-thinking" in vegetation modelling (e.g. in Dynamic Global Vegetation Models)
- Exploring the ecological strategies of paleo-species via their (fossil) traits

I contribute to teaching Biol368 Ecology & Evolution, and to occasional master classes for the Genes to Geoscience Research Centre.
I am on the editorial board of Global Ecology & Biogeography.
Recent news:
- ** We have just advertised two postdoctoral positions, "Research Fellow in Plant Functional Ecology" and "Research Fellow in in Data Analysis and Modelling".
Both positions are up to 2 years fixed-term duration with an attractive salary package, and will present opportunities to collaborate widely, both nationally and internationally.
Closing date for applications is June 10th. Further information can be found HERE. **
