How often do you actually use links on other people's websites? With that in mind, keep the links few and meaningful; you may be the only person to use them regularly. You can make links open in a new window using target="_blank" in the <a> tags. This might also be a good spot to link to Media and Outreach type materials your research has inspired, in which case change the page name to Media & Links or something to this effect. It's fairly easy to embed material these days, like youtube (below), maps (on Contact page), flickr pics, facebook stuff, and heaps more.
